Hire Microsoft Dynamics 365 experts

Hire Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales consultants

In short

MS Dynamics Guys provides Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales consultants who join your team and work with your sales operations lead. The consultant turns your sales process into lead, opportunity, pipeline and forecast configuration. The work also covers access for sales roles and how sellers use Outlook and Teams with the system. Your lead sets priorities and approves each change, and your team tests every change before release.

When a Sales consultant from MS Dynamics Guys fits your team

Your sales operations team knows what it needs from its customer relationship management (CRM) system. It lacks the time or the product knowledge to turn those needs into configuration in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales. A Sales consultant fills that gap.

Typical situations for this role

  • Sales operations has a backlog of pipeline, forecast and lead routing requests, and your administrator has time only for daily support.
  • Leadership changed the sales method: new stages, new qualification questions or a product line with its own process.
  • Managers keep their own spreadsheets because they do not trust the forecast.
  • Sellers work mostly in Outlook and Teams and record little in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales.
  • Your rollout or migration program needs one person to own the sales workstream.

Choose another role or service when

  • Most requests need plug-ins, scripts or integrations. Add a CRM developer instead, or as well.
  • Your requests are mainly about cases, queues and service levels. A CRM consultant with customer service experience fits better.
  • Your requests are mostly about marketing campaigns and customer journeys in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys. That is a separate specialism. A Sales consultant takes over once a lead reaches Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales.
  • Nobody on your side can direct the work. A provider-led Sales implementation project fits better than a hire.
  • You need someone to set quotas, commissions or territories. Those decisions belong to sales leadership.

What a Sales consultant owns, and what stays with your team

The consultant owns design and configuration. Your team keeps the business decisions and approves every release.

Configuration comes before code. Microsoft advises trying declarative options before plug-ins. When configuration cannot express a rule, the consultant writes the requirement and a CRM developer builds it.

Product catalog, price lists and quotes are part of the role only when your sellers quote from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales. List them in the role brief. Pricing rules that configuration cannot express need a CRM developer or a dedicated quoting product.

The role covers Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales online. If you run Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (on-premises), name the version in your role brief. Plan without Teams integration there, and without Sales agent, the artificial intelligence (AI) assistant that brings CRM insights into Outlook and Teams. We confirm whether we can fill the role for it before any introduction.

Also tell us which Sales licenses your users hold, because some features need a specific license. Forecasting is not supported in Government Community Cloud environments or on mobile devices.

How will a Sales consultant from MS Dynamics Guys work with our sales operations team?

As a member of that team. Your sales operations lead, or the owner of your sales system, sets priorities and approves every change. The consultant takes requests from your backlog and works in your environments, tools and meetings. Your administrator issues the consultant a named account that can customize your development environment. Changes reach production only through your release process. Each request moves through five steps:

  1. Intake. The request arrives with its business reason. The consultant asks which decision, report or seller task it supports.
  2. Plan. The consultant writes down the rule, the setting that implements it, the users it affects and the test your team will run.
  3. Build and test. The consultant configures the change in development. Your team checks it in a test environment, with a test user for each sales role.
  4. Release. Your lead approves the release through your process. The consultant writes short notes for sellers and managers.
  5. Check. After the release, the consultant reviews the data checks you agreed, such as open opportunities without an estimated close date.

The consultant needs a lead who answers questions within an agreed time. The consultant also needs time with a sales manager and two or three sellers, and a way to settle disputed requests. MS Dynamics Guys keeps the supplier duties set in the written agreement, as in any staff augmentation engagement. They include fit checks with your lead at an agreed interval, notice of planned absence and the agreed replacement process.

Forecast questions the consultant settles before building

A forecast in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales adds up opportunity values through a hierarchy, period by period. Before configuring one, the consultant settles six questions with your sales operations lead:

  • Which hierarchy? Managers and their teams, territories or products. Each depends on clean data: opportunity owners, account territories or opportunity products.
  • Which periods? Months, quarters or years, in line with your fiscal year.
  • Which columns? Usually the forecast category of each opportunity: Pipeline, Best case, Committed or Omitted. Won and Lost are set when a seller closes the deal.
  • Where do quotas come from? After activation, the forecast provides an Excel workbook with a column for each period. Your team supplies the quotas, as amounts in your organization's base currency. Decide who updates the workbook when quotas change.
  • Who may adjust the numbers? A column can allow manual adjustments. Decide which column, and who reviews them.
  • Who sees each forecast? Forecast permissions decide who can view it. A separate role decides who can configure it.

Forecast totals can lag behind changes to opportunities. Changes made in the forecast itself show at once. A change made anywhere else, such as on the opportunity form, reaches the current period at the end of the day. Past periods change only after someone selects Recalculate data. Managers need to know this before their first forecast review.

Premium forecasting adds predictions from an AI model. It needs a Sales license that includes it, and Microsoft does not offer it in every region. Before anyone plans around it, the consultant checks your licenses and your environment's region. The consultant also builds a view that shows whether your opportunity data qualifies. Microsoft requires more than ten closed opportunities that have both actual and estimated values for revenue and close date. Open opportunities need an estimated revenue and close date too.

Microsoft states that forecasting is not intended for decisions that affect employment, such as pay. Keep commission calculations in your own approved process.

Outlook and Teams: what the consultant plans with your administrators

The consultant first agrees with your sales operations lead which emails and meetings sellers link to accounts, contacts and opportunities. Then the consultant plans the prerequisites with your Microsoft 365 administrators:

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 App for Outlook needs server-side synchronization for email and approved, tested mailboxes. Each seller also needs the App for Outlook User security role, or a custom role with the same privileges. Assign it to each user directly, because a role given to a team does not pass these privileges to its members.
  • One Exchange mailbox synchronizes appointments, contacts and tasks with one environment only. Decide which environment each pilot seller uses.
  • The app does not support shared mailboxes, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Exchange Online in different tenants.
  • Microsoft Teams integration lets a deal team view and discuss records in chats and channels, with linked files. It does not work on mobile devices or for guest users.

This matters for an external consultant. A guest in your tenant can use the apps once you assign a license and a security role. A guest cannot use Teams integration or their own email address for email work in your environment. Plan a member test account, or a pilot seller who runs those tests.

How we assess a Sales consultant before you meet them

The main exercise mirrors the job. Each candidate turns a written sales process from a fictional company into a configuration plan that a sales operations team could test. The general CRM consultant exercise maps a process to configuration and marks where code is needed. This one goes deeper into forecast design, lead qualification and access for sales roles. Every rule in the plan needs a test that sales operations can run.

Sales consultant evaluation: skill, review method and the evidence you receive
SkillHow we review itEvidence you receive
Turning a sales process into configurationThe candidate maps each rule to a setting, an owner and a test, and says which parts stay standardThe plan, with our reviewer's comments
Lead and opportunity designA sandbox walkthrough of lead qualification settings, the opportunity business process flow and its stage rulesNotes on each choice and its side effects
Forecast designThe candidate chooses a template, hierarchy, columns and quota approach for a sales director's question, and says when premium forecasting needs a license checkA short forecast design note
Access for sales rolesThe candidate drafts roles for a seller, a sales manager and a sales operations analyst from the predefined Sales rolesA draft role matrix
Outlook and Teams prerequisitesQuestions on email synchronization, mailbox approval and guest-user limitsOur interview notes
Explaining a forecast gapA sales director asks why the forecast total for a quarter differs from a manager's spreadsheet. The candidate names the cause, and the data rule or setting that closes the gapOur reviewer's notes, and the data rule the candidate proposes

For each candidate we introduce, you receive a short written summary of strengths and of the gaps your own interview should explore. With the candidate's consent, you also receive the plan and notes listed in the table.

Questions to ask a Sales consultant in your interview

Use them in your own interview, whoever supplied the candidate. Each question comes from routine sales operations work, so your sales operations lead can judge the answers.

Interview questions for a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales consultant
Question you can askA strong answer covers
Our managers want to change the committed number in the forecast. How would you set that up?Adjustments on one column, but not on that column and a total built from it. Also who may adjust, and how to keep opportunity data good enough that adjustments stay rare.
We want web leads routed to regional teams. What do you need to know first?First, whether your Sales licenses include assignment rules and whether the sales accelerator is set up, because assignment rules run there. Then the segment conditions and the rule order, because the first matching rule wins. Also what happens to leads created before activation, and who handles leads that nobody takes.
Our pilot sellers cannot track emails from Outlook. Where do you look first?Server-side synchronization, mailbox approval and testing, and the App for Outlook User role. That role must be assigned to each user, not only to a team. Also whether the mailbox already synchronizes with another environment.
We copied the Sales Manager role and changed it. What is the risk? The copy does not receive permissions that Microsoft adds to the predefined role later. New features can fail for those users until someone updates the copy.

Example of a first work package

One consultant, a small team or a defined package

Sales operations work comes in two shapes. A stream of requests that your lead reorders every week suits a consultant in your team. One change with a fixed date, such as a territory forecast for the next fiscal year, can be written down as a defined result. The table shows who directs the work in each case.

Ways to add Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales consulting capacity
OptionWho directs the workFits when
One Sales consultant in your team (staff augmentation)Your sales operations lead, through your backlogYou have someone who sets priorities and accepts changes
A full rollout or repair (Sales implementation project)MS Dynamics Guys, through discovery and agreed deliverablesYou are moving to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales, or sellers stopped using it, and you want MS Dynamics Guys to run the program

Allocation, working hours, overlap, minimum term, notice, replacement and rates are agreed in writing per engagement. Our guide to staff augmentation versus project delivery compares the models by responsibility, risk and pricing basis.

How a Sales consultant starts in your team

We confirm whether we can fill the role before any introduction. Start dates are set only after you interview and approve a candidate.

  1. Role brief

You describe how your team sells and which Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales version and licenses you use. Add the open requests, the reporting line, the hours to cover and the expected duration.

  2. Scope and fit review

We sort the requests you listed. Pipeline, forecast, routing and access settings point to a Sales consultant. Plug-ins and integrations point to a CRM developer, and a new rollout to a project. If another option fits better, we say so.

  3. Evaluated candidates

If we can fill the role, you receive a written summary of the configuration plan exercise for each candidate we introduce.

  4. Your interview

Your sales operations lead interviews each candidate. A good test is one real request with customer data removed, such as a routing change. Ask which settings and tests the candidate would plan. You decide who joins.

  5. Written agreement

Role, allocation, hours, term, notice, replacement and confidentiality are agreed in writing before work starts.

  6. Access and introductions

A named account that can customize your development environment, a user account in your test environment, and access to your backlog. Then short meetings with sales operations, a sales manager and two sellers.

  7. First accepted change

One small request from your backlog, planned, configured in development and tested by your team before release.

What you can check before you hire

This page shows no client names, reviews or case studies.

You can check the work itself: the written evaluation summary, your own interview and the plan format the role produces. The table shows that format as a demonstration for a fictional company. It is not client work.

Each regional manager's quarterly quota appears next to the forecast totalsA quota column in the forecast. After activation, sales operations fills in the workbook that the forecast provides, with amounts in the organization's base currencyUpload a test workbook. After up to two hours, compare one manager's quota in the forecast with the workbook.

Each line names a rule, the setting behind it and a check your team can repeat. Candidates write a plan like this in our evaluation, and a consultant in your team plans each change the same way. Before you reuse a line, check it against your own Sales licenses, fiscal calendar and data. How we assess specialists explains who reviews each exercise, how it is scored and what an assessment cannot show.

Questions about hiring a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales consultant

Is a Sales consultant different from a CRM consultant?

Yes, in focus. A CRM consultant owns the design that Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer Service share: tables, security and business rules across both apps. A Sales consultant works inside the sales process: lead routing, opportunity stages, forecasts, access for sales roles, and Outlook and Teams for sellers. If your requests mix sales and service work, start with a CRM consultant.

Can the consultant move our pipeline from the old CRM?

The consultant designs the target and checks the result, but does not run the data loads. Before migration, the consultant maps your old stages, lead statuses and owners to the new values. Sales operations decides which open opportunities move. After each trial load, the consultant compares pipeline totals by stage with the old system and checks a sample of opportunities. Extracting, transforming and loading the data is migration work. A data migration engineer or a migration project, such as a Salesforce to Microsoft Dynamics 365 migration, owns it.

Will the consultant join our pipeline and forecast reviews?

If you want that, add it to the role brief. These meetings show the consultant how managers use the data. The hours the consultant shares with your team are agreed in writing for each engagement, before any introduction.

Our quotas and forecast adjustments are sensitive. Where does that data stay?

In your systems. Quotas and manager adjustments show how each seller performs. The consultant works on them only in your environments and your workspace, under the device and security rules agreed in writing. Forecast permissions decide who can view or adjust each forecast, and the consultant tests them with a test user for each sales role. Ownership of the work products, such as plans, test cases and seller guides, is set in the written agreement before work starts.

What if the consultant leaves in the middle of a forecast period?

Notice and replacement terms are agreed in writing per engagement. In sales operations, timing is the main risk. A quota update, a forecast change or a new assignment rule can be unfinished when a period closes. So the handover note lists each open change, its state and the dates in your sales calendar that it affects. It also lists settings that are easy to miss, such as the order of your assignment rules. Finished changes already have a plan, a test and release notes in your workspace, so the next person can check them.

Which parts of our sales setup affect the cost?

The rate basis, allocation and term are agreed in writing for each engagement, and this site publishes no rates. Your sales setup decides how much work the role holds. More sales processes, regions, forecast hierarchies and sales roles with their own access mean more design work and more tests. An Outlook pilot with a few sellers is a smaller task than a rollout to every seller. Your organization buys Microsoft licenses separately, through Microsoft partners, Microsoft sales or online. If you plan premium forecasting, check first that your licenses include it.

Describe the Sales consultant role you need

Tell us how your team sells and which Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales version and licenses you use. Add the requests in your backlog, the hours to cover and for how long. We confirm whether we can fill the role before any introduction.
